AI phone assistant for tattoo studios

A tattoo enquiry is a size, a placement and a deposit conversation. Tel-Agent takes them, checks age, and books the consultation.

  • Size and placement
  • Age check
  • Deposit

Why a tattoo studio's phone is full of consultations

Nobody books a tattoo on a phone call. What the call is actually for is finding out whether the studio does that style, roughly what it costs, and how long the wait is - and every one of those answers depends on details nobody collects consistently while an artist is mid-session.

How the AI receptionist handles a tattoo enquiry

  1. It answers while every artist is working.

  2. It asks the size and the placement, which together decide the artist and the hours.

  3. It asks whether it is colour or black and grey, and whether it is a cover-up.

  4. It confirms the client is over eighteen - asked every time, without exception.

  5. It books a consultation and explains that a deposit is taken then, not now.

What a tattoo studio phone assistant should and should not do

What it does

  • Answers while every artist is mid-session
  • Takes the size, the placement and the style
  • Asks the age question on every enquiry
  • Routes cover-ups to a consultation rather than a booking
  • Keeps client details on the studio's own machine

What it never does

  • Quote a price for a piece nobody has seen
  • Confirm an artist will take a design
  • Take a deposit over the phone
  • Advise on healing, aftercare or a reaction
  • Book anybody without the age question being answered

Questions

Can it quote for a tattoo?

No. Price depends on size, placement, detail and the artist, and none of that is settled on a first call. It books the consultation where a real price is given.

Does it check age?

Every time, without exception. It is a legal requirement rather than a policy, and it is asked before a consultation is offered rather than discovered on the day.

What about cover-ups?

They are flagged and routed to a consultation. A cover-up depends entirely on what is already there, and it is not something to be booked from a description.

Can it take the deposit?

No. Card details are never taken by the assistant. The deposit is explained on the call and taken at the consultation, by a person.

Does it help with aftercare calls?

Those reach a person. A question about healing or a reaction is not a booking question, and a generated answer about a wound is exactly what must not happen.

Does the EU AI Act allow an AI to answer a consultation enquiry?

Yes, under Article 50 of Regulation 2024/1689, which asks that the caller be told they are speaking to a machine - that line belongs in the greeting you configure. Nothing about this work falls under Annex III, the list of high-risk uses. The distinction the Act draws is between assisting and deciding, and this agent assists: it never advises on a treatment or judges whether skin is suitable for one. Austria's KI-Servicestelle at RTR publishes the same reading of the transparency duty.

Who is the data controller for what a caller to a tattoo studio says on the phone?

You are. A consultation enquiry is ordinary personal data, though a patch-test note edges toward health data, and Tel-Agent is self-hosted with your own model keys, so the recording, the transcript and the record it writes stay on your server and never reach Dpro GmbH. There is no processor agreement to sign with us because we never receive the data, and the source is AGPL-3.0, so you can check that rather than take our word for it.

Can a tattoo studio run this in the United States?

There is no single federal AI statute to comply with, but a phone line carries older rules. The TCPA governs automated outbound calls, and consent to record is set state by state. Consent to record is set state by state, and California and Illinois among others want every party to agree. Running the software yourself makes you the caller of record, so the disclosure and the recording switch are yours to set.

Not usable yet. The day it answers a real call will be a release, not a newsletter.
